    Deaths and Obits
    Edward Pluta, Sr.
    Pluta, Edward, Sr., 82, of East Otto, died October 3, 2009, in Koszalin, Poland.
    He was born on November 26, 1926, in Warsaw, Poland, a son of Antoni and Aleksandra (Rowicka) Pluta. Edward served in the Polish Underground during World War II, was a prisoner of war at Lehrte Germany and was later sent to a labor camp in Gottingen until the American liberation in 1945. He completed his service as a transport driver in the reorganized Polish Army of EX-POWS in Germany serving under British Command. He met Anna (Senek) in Gottingen and they were married in Hann-Munden, Germany on October 13, 1946. Owing to the generous sponsorship of his maternal uncle Lucian and (Alexandria) Rowicki of Cherry Creek, they immigrated to the US in 1951 and made their home in Buffalo where Edward was employed by the Ford Motor Company for 31 years. After his retirement in 1982 he took up hobby-farming full-time in East Otto. A serious stamp collector, specializing in various Poland collections and the US Space Mission, he was member of the Polish Philatelic Society Plewacki Post, holding the office of secretary for a number of years. He enjoyed classical music, playing the piano and accordion and enjoyed dancing, hunting and fishing. Edward was a member of the United Auto Workers and St. Aloysius Church in Springville. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years. In 1999 he married Stanislawa (Kolczyk) in Kozsalin, Poland where he resided for the past 10 years.
    He leaves behind two sons, Edward of East Otto and Stefan of Sioux Falls SD, daughters Angela Morrissey of San Diego CA, Teresa Haas of Bolivar, Diane Colgan of Berlin VT; grandsons Justin and Christian Colgan; granddaughter Anna Morrissey-Hu and great-grandson Alexander Colgan.
    Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross of Buffalo, Blood Services Division 786 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo, New York 14209.
    Mass and burial was held in Koszalin Poland on October 16.

    Raymond Darszewski
    Raymond F. Darszewski of Springville, October 24, 2009. Father of Ronald (Joyce), Daniel (Joanne) Darszewski and Sally (George) Wittmeyer; grandfather of John (Becki) Darszewski, Kathleen Heary, Jason Wittmeyer, Jolene (Nick) Enser, Jessie Wittmeyer and the late Jeremy Wittmeyer; great-grandfather of three great-grandchildren; brother of Stanley (late Pearl) Darszewski, Lorretta (late Elmer) Ciszak and the late Michael Darszewski; brother-in-law of Joan Darszewski; also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock from the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home, Inc., 271 East Main Street, Springville. The Rev. Lawrence Cobel officiated. Burial was in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Springville. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Mortons Corners Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Darszewski was a charter member of the Mortons Corners Fire Company.
