S-GI Advisory Committee looks at several improvements
2nd school year for Superintendent's Advisory Committee
The Superintendent’s Advisory Committee at Springville-Griffith Institute CSD is beginning its second school year. Formed in January of this year by Superintendent Vicki Wright.
Several of the recommendations of the committee have become reality, according to member Marsha Reding, including:
• A new sidewalk for access to the playground at Springville Elementary School.
• Greater awareness of BOCES/vocational programs at the high school level.
• Development of coach’s guidelines to monitor quality of coaching staff.
• Improvement of procedures to assure student athletes go to athletic study hall after school when needed.
• Assisted in updating summer reading lists and use of a technological program where students write about books they have read.
• Supported focus on success of S-GI graduates.
• Responsible for implementing an enrichment program at the elementary level.
• Prompted schedule changes to accommodate more class time for ELA and Math at SES.
• Advocated for the 4 p.m. bus run to include elementary students.
• Supported staff training in differentiated instruction and use of Magic Penny reading program into first grade.
The 2009-10 committee has met once, on October 7, but new volunteers are always welcome to attend – just contact Kathy Tucker at 592-3230 or ktucker@springvillegi.org.
Members of the 2008-09 committee included Melissa Clark, Wendy Darling, Matt Eisenhower, Julie Francisco, Joe Grisanti, Jan Grzeskiewicz, Pat and Phil Marcello, Jennifer Moscato, Marsha Reding, Louis Starr and Mel Williams.
