    Robin Carter

    Robin Champion Carter, 55, a park ranger for National Park Service in Washington D.C., died Saturday, October 31, 2009 at his home in Alexandra, Virginia. Robin had lived in Alexandria for a year and seven months and was previously from Cattaraugus.

    He was born November 16, 1953 in San Antonio, Texas, the son of the late Steve F. Carter and Esther Jane (Robbins) Carter.

    Robin graduated from Crossland High School in 1971 and received his masters degree from Auburn University. He taught conversational English for several years at Seoul National University, Korea. He also worked at the State Department as an information officer in Nigeria and the Congo. Robin served in the Air Force during Vietnam Era having attained the rank of AF E4, enlisted on October 12, 1971 at Baltimore, Md. and was discharged on April 13, 1975 at McGuire AFB. A member of MENSA and having become a pilot a member of AOPA.

    He enjoyed community theater, participating in Salamanca and Springville theaters and appeared on the TV Show Jeopardy with a two day reign.

    He is survived by his wife Bernadean Lemk Carter of Alexandria, Va., whom he married on Feb. 24, 2001 in Otto; his mother, Esther Jane Carter of Cattaraugus and a son, William M.D. Carter of Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

    A memorial service will be held Saturday afternoon, November 7, at 2 o’clock at Hills Funeral Chapel, 55 South Main Street, Cattaraugus. The Rev. Darrel Moen of Concordia Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Liberty Park Cemetery, Cattaraugus.

    Visitation will be held at the funeral chapel on Saturday from noon - 2 p.m..

    Expressions of sympathy may be made to any veterans organization of the donor’s choice.



    Carol Christ

    Carol Ann Crist of Sun City Grand, Surprise, Arizona, formerly of Orchard Park, passed away October 13, 2009.

    Carol was a 1956 graduate of Immaculata High School and at age 37 graduated with honors from Trocaire College as a registered nurse. She retired from the surgery department at Mercy Hospital in South Buffalo after 21 years of service.

    Carol and Charlie moved to Arizona in 2007.

    She was the wife of Charles Crist; mother of Cheryl of Phoenix, Arizona and Cathleen and Carolyn, both of California.

    Carol’s body was donated to the Biological Resource Center in Phoenix, Arizona. A Buffalo memorial is planned in the spring of 2010.



    Esther Reed

    Esther C. Reed (nee Cobo), October 30, 2009, of Springville. Wife of the late Kenneth W. Reed; mother of John William (Barbara) Reed and Marlene M. (Arthur) Clark; grandmother of Julia A. (Frank) Noeson and Lisa M. (Reed) Braman; sister of Lelia Kearney and Letha Smith Funeral services were held Monday morning at 11 o’clock from Our Savior Lutheran Church, 431 Waverly Street, Springville. The Rev. Daniel Walters officiated. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery, Springville. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Fiddlers Green Nursing Home or Bertrand Chaffee Hospital, Springville. Arrangements were made by the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home, Inc., 271 East Main Street, Springville.



    Robert Schelble

    Robert A. Schelble of Little Valley, formerly of East Concord, October 28, 2009. Husband of Audrey (McNamara); father of Allen (Bonnie) and Sharon Schelble; grandfather of four grandchildren; brother of Dorothy Berger, Loretta West, Gloria Straight and the late Carl “Dewey” Schelble; also survived by several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law of Joanne Schelble. Mr. Schelble was a lifelong dairy farmer. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 11 o’clock from the First Congregational Church in Little Valley. Arrangements were made by the Mentley Funeral Home, Inc., 411 Rock City St., Little Valley. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the First Congregational Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
