Volunteer firefighters are dedicated, professional
Kane asks Western New Yorkers to thank their volunteers
Editor:
I am an employee of the New York State Department of Transportation and this past Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, there was a very serious accident that occurred in our work zone on Route 16 in Sardinia.
A car went over the center line and struck a tractor trailer head-on. This happened within eyesight of our crews. Our crews (NYSDOT) were the first on scene and then the members of the Chaffee-Sardinia Volunteer Fire Co., as well as the Holland Volunteer Fire Co., responded to the scene. It was quite a sight watching these professionals work to extricate and care for the victim who was pinned in the car. They did their work very diligently and the victim was whisked away in a Mercy Flight helicopter.
I hope everyone noticed that I made sure that I put the word “volunteer” in the fire company names. I did that as a reminder of the work that these fine people do as volunteers. The next time you see one of these members out on the street, I would hope you would take a second to say “thank you” for their time.
