    Jack Alford and Benny Columbus have gone to Laramie, Wyoming. Jack is a senior in the University of Wyoming, and Benny enters the University as a freshman.

    Miss Roberta Davis, School Nurse at Massanutten Military Academy, Woodstock, Virginia, has returned to her duties after a visit with her mother, Mrs. Charles C. Smith, and family.

    Earl Fuller left Friday morning for his senior year at Syracuse University.

    Mr. and Mrs. William Eidt and daughter, Marilyn, of Waterport, were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Bull.

    Mrs. Lillian Emerson was the guest last week of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd L. Wooley at their cottage at Community Grove on the Lake.

    James H. Gibbin, who completed his college work at the University of Buffalo in June, has been advised that he is one of the few who have passed their New York State Bar examination.

    September 24, 1959

    Dr. Richard Loomis has recently been informed by the Editor of “American Men of Medicine” that his name has been accepted for inclusion in the 1960 Edition, Third Volume of Who’s Important in Medicine.

    Tom Krezmien, a 6-foot, 1-inch 190-pound pitcher-outfielder for Morton Corners of the Buffalo Evening News Suburban Baseball Association, was signed to a contract by the San Francisco Giants of the National League.

    Great honor came to the Springville Lodge of the Loyal Order of Moose on June 13, 1959, when the Pilgrim Degree of Merit was conferred upon Brother John M. Kaufmann in the House of God at Mooseheart, Illinois.

    This month Gordon Rouse has been with the Springville Fire Company for 50 years. During these years, he has served in almost every capacity.

    The Springville Chamber of Commerce donated $2,000 to the Route 219 Association, to be used to support the Association’s activities to speed the construction schedule of Route 219 between Buffalo and Springville, and to promote a U.S. 219 Divided Interstate System to Pennsylvania and points south.

    The newly organized Springville Area Meals on Wheels has tentatively set early October as a starting date and is accepting applications.

    Thomas E. Witt, son of Jane Witt of Springville, has been advanced to the rank of Hospital Corpsman Third Class. He is stationed at the Naval Regional Medical Clinic, Brunswick, Maine.

    Robert F. Benson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Benson of Springville, has entered his freshman year at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

    Winsmith’s Softball Team clinched their fifth consecutive League Championship recently.

    TWENTY YEARS AGO

    September 14, 1989

    Keith Clark, 17, son of Bob and Marie Clark of West Valley and a junior at Springville-Griffith Institute High School spent one and one-half weeks of his summer vacation island hopping in the South Pacific on a trip sponsored by the R.G. Canning Corporation, honoring Clark for his accomplishments.

    The Springville-Griffith Institute varsity football team opened their 1989 season with a 20-0 win over visiting Pioneer. The offense was led by Chris George with 158 yards on 22 carries, and two touchdowns.

    Mr. and Mrs. Kurt Arendt of Lawtons celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 11 with a gathering of family and friends at the Boston Valley Conservation Club. Mr. Arendt and the former Eleanor Jensen of Collins were married September 10, 1949 at Salem Lutheran Church in Springville.

    Derek Johnson recently became assistant sales manager at Bob Johnson Motors in Springville, making him the third generation of Johnsons involved in the business.

    Ellie Wiede of Collins was recently named Grand Champion at the Erie County Fair 4-H horse show.
