On November 19 Advanced Art students from S-GI visited Meibohm Fine Arts in East Aurora.
The students toured the exhibition “Environs Preserved” by regional artist Harold Dodge. They also met with the gallery staff for behind the scenes tours of the art shop, sales, framing and photography areas. Owner Grace Meibohm described the process of selecting work, cleaning, restoration, framing and hanging an exhibition.
Painter Harold Dodge lived from 1924-1990. His career included study at Eastman and service in the Air Force in World War Two. He helped create Beaver Meadow Audubon Center and Tifft Farm Nature Preserve. As president of the Buffalo Ornithological Society, he traveled through the western states. As a musician, he played for many family gatherings and school presentations. Dodge exhibited his award-winning paintings of cityscapes and rural scenes in many local galleries. Although the exhibit ended November 21, it can still be viewed online at www.meibohmfinearts.com.
Harold’s daughter Carol is married to Joseph Zwolski. They have two children: Justin is a student at RIT and graduated from S-GI last year. Stacie is currently a junior at S-GI. This connection to the area and school made the trip to the gallery a unique opportunity for the students.
