    The State College of Fredonia has awarded Linda Loud a scholarship for two weeks of study at its Summer Music Clinic. Linda, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Loud of Edgewood Drive, Springville, was given the scholarship on the basis of excellence in violin playing.

    Airman James W. Harrison, son of Mr. and Mrs. DeForest Harrison of Vaughn Street, Springville, has completed basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas. He has been assigned to Chanute AFB, Illinois for training in aircraft maintenance.

    Airman William M. Delio, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Delio of Rice Road, Boston, has completed basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas. He has been assigned to Sheppard AFB, Texas for training in aircraft maintenance.

    State Assemblyman and Concord Industrial Development Chairman Thomas M. Reynolds led the ribbon-cutting ceremony held Aug. 12 to formally open the first commercial building in the Springville-Concord Commerce Park.

    TEN YEARS AGO

    August 19, 1999

    Plans to build a new 1024-foot television broadcast tower in Colden ground to a sharp halt Aug. 12 when the Colden Town Board listened to residents’ concerns at a public hearing. Although the hearing involved residents’ comments, the board decided by a 3-2 vote to deny granting WNGS-TV owners an area variance.

    The graduation Class of 1944 at Griffith Institute held its 55-year reunion at Orsini’s Ristoranti on July 24, with 27 classmates and their guests attending.
